In the January & February 2025 issue, ArtReview presents its annual Future Greats special, in which it asks artists and writers to nominate someone they feel is doing work that deserves more attention: artists to look out for in the years to come. It might be an artist who’s been foundational to a town’s scene but is unknown on the other side of the world; or maybe it’s an artist who has just left art school, or had only a few smaller exhibitions. Artists the world should begin to observe more closely, and return to in time. Alongside nominators’ texts and a portfolio of works by the ten artists selected for this edition, the issue also includes an interview with Anh Trần; a feature on the artist Khaled Jarrar; an annotated republication of a 1956 text by Lawrence Alloway, in which he addresses the groundbreaking exhibition This is Tomorrow, shown that year at London’s Whitechapel Gallery; reviews of current exhibitions from around the world; and a look at new books, from works of fiction to art history, manga, linguistics and photography.
